This Privacy Policy explains how Vertex Vector Technologies Inc. collects, uses, discloses, stores, and protects information when you use SPOIL and related services.
Who We Are
SPOIL is offered by Vertex Vector Technologies Inc. ("Vertex Vector," "we," "us," or "our"), a Manitoba, Canada corporation. Vertex Vector Technologies Inc. is responsible for the handling of personal information described in this Privacy Policy.
Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly, information collected automatically through the Services, and information we receive from service providers and integration partners.
- Account information, such as email address, display name, sign-in method, and profile settings.
- Submitted content, such as photos, notes, support messages, bug reports, ratings, and feedback.
- Preferences, including theme, language, notifications, history settings, and similar controls.
- Subscription and support purchase metadata, such as plan type, entitlement state, renewal, cancellation, and transaction details provided by billing partners.
- Device, app, network, log, and diagnostic data, such as device type, operating system, app version, time zone, installation identifiers, IP address, crash data, service logs, and performance telemetry.
- Analysis-related inputs, outputs, feedback, and processing metadata connected to service features.
We generally do not collect full payment card numbers directly inside the Services. Payment credentials are typically handled by app stores, payment platforms, or subscription providers.
How We Use Information
We use information to:
- provide, operate, secure, and maintain the Services;
- create and manage accounts and authenticate users;
- process submissions, return results, and support requested features;
- remember preferences and personalize the user experience;
- process subscriptions, support purchases, renewals, cancellations, and entitlement updates;
- send service, security, product, and notification messages;
- troubleshoot issues, detect abuse, enforce limits, and improve reliability;
- review support requests, bug reports, and other communications;
- develop, test, validate, improve, and maintain our systems, models, and services; and
- comply with legal obligations and protect our rights, users, and business.
AI and Machine Learning
The Services may use a combination of automated systems, including models we operate in cloud infrastructure and selected third-party AI or machine learning service providers.
To operate, maintain, and improve these features, we may use submitted inputs and outputs, feedback, labels, annotations, de-identified or aggregated service data, quality review data, and limited human review where reasonably necessary for support, safety, debugging, annotation, or improvement work.
You should avoid submitting unnecessary sensitive personal information through the Services.
By using SPOIL's scan features, you consent to your submitted food images being transmitted to and processed by trained models for the purpose of generating freshness analysis results.
Data Retention
We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including to provide the Services, maintain account records, comply with law, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and protect the Services.
Retention periods vary depending on the type of information. Account data may be retained while an account remains active and for a limited period afterward. Diagnostics, abuse-prevention records, support records, subscription records, and logs may be retained longer for operational, security, compliance, tax, or accounting reasons. Some submitted content may be processed transiently, while other content may be retained in history or quality systems if you use or enable those features or if reasonable retention is needed for retries, support, safety review, fraud prevention, model improvement, or legal compliance. Food images submitted for scanning are not retained by any third-party model for model training. SPOIL stores the scan result (verdict, recommendation, confidence score) in your account history. If you are a Premium subscriber with saved scan images enabled, a copy of the image is also retained in secure cloud storage.
Your Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live and subject to applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or request a copy of certain personal information, or to object to certain processing.
You may also be able to:
- update profile details in the app;
- manage notification settings in the app or on your device;
- manage analytics or tracking preferences where available;
- disable or avoid optional history-saving features; and
- delete your account through the app or by contacting us.

Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information from unauthorized access, loss, misuse, alteration, or disclosure. No method of transmission, storage, or processing is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
In the event of a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify affected users and relevant regulatory authorities without undue delay and in accordance with applicable law. Notification will describe the nature of the breach and any steps we recommend you take to protect yourself.
International Transfers
We and our service providers may process and store information in Canada, the United States, and other jurisdictions where we or our providers operate. Those jurisdictions may have privacy laws that differ from the laws where you live.
Children's Privacy
Our Services are not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the applicable minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect, use, or store personal information from children under this age. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without verifiable parental consent, we will take steps to delete that information promptly. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information to us, please contact us at privacy@spoilscanner.com so we can take appropriate action.
Information for Users in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland
Legal Basis for Processing. We process your personal data on the following legal bases:
- Contract performance: to provide the Services you requested, manage your account, and process transactions.
- Legitimate interest: to improve and secure the Services, prevent fraud, and communicate service updates.
- Consent: where you have given explicit consent, such as opting into marketing communications or optional analytics. You may withdraw consent at any time.
Your Rights. In addition to the rights described elsewhere in this policy, you have the right to:
- Request restriction of processing of your personal data.
- Object to processing based on legitimate interest.
- Data portability in a structured, commonly used format.

International Transfers. Your data may be transferred to and processed in Canada, the United States, and other countries where our service providers operate.
